TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance, the brand’s Japan-based creative arm, is reissuing the TDS Niobium Concept 1 on June 26, 2026 — the first revival of the model since its debut in 2020, when it generated immediate attention for its unusual design premise.

The Niobium Concept 1 is a single shoe that reconfigures into three distinct forms: a waterproof boot for outdoor and wet conditions, an outdoor mule for ease of on-and-off wear during travel, and an indoor slipper. That trifold functionality is the core concept — one object, three modes, designed for a daily life that moves between climates and contexts.

The revival introduces two new colorways: Washed Navy and Butter Yellow, both quiet and tonal in ways that complement the shoe’s understated utilitarian premise. Neither colorway calls attention to itself; the design does the talking.
