SASHIKO GALS × NEW ERA VOL. 2

By SASHIKO GALS / New Era

SASHIKO GALS, the Otsuchi-based community of sashiko needlework artisans, returns for a second collaboration with New Era. Six limited-edition caps — three 59FIFTY® and three 9TWENTY™ — will release on June 27 at New Era Ginza, the New Era online store, and KUON.

SASHIKO GALS was founded on March 11, 2024 — thirteen years after the Great East Japan Earthquake — as an evolution of the Otsuchi Sashiko Project, a recovery initiative that began in the disaster’s aftermath. The community now numbers 23 members, primarily women between their forties and eighties, and works across product categories without genre restriction: sneakers, headwear, art objects. Each piece is hand-stitched; the technique itself — sashiko, a form of Japanese functional embroidery traditionally used to reinforce fabric — is being reinterpreted here through a contemporary, collaborative lens.

This second collaboration expands on the first, which sold out immediately after its March 2026 release. The lineup covers three MLB teams: the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres. The 59FIFTY® is fully covered in sashiko embroidery (Yankees ¥99,000; Dodgers and Padres ¥110,000 each); the 9TWENTY™ applies sashiko partially, designed for daily wear at ¥38,500 per cap. Compared to the first drop, the colorways have been recalibrated so that team colors read more clearly through the embroidery.

Available June 27: 59FIFTY® via the New Era online store from 10:00; 9TWENTY™ at New Era Ginza from 11:00; both styles also at KUON Flagship Store (Jingumae, Shibuya) and KUON online store from 12:00. One item per person.
